Parcent

Parcent is in the heart of the valley and is easily identified by its well-known church, floodlit at night, and an arresting site across the valley from the villa’s pool or while sipping drinks on the villa’s terraces.

Although about 30 per cent of its 900 or so residents are now from overseas, mostly from Britain, it manages to retain the sleepy feel of a traditional Spanish pueblo with its narrow streets and colour whitewashed buildings and intricate wrought iron balconies.

It has two bodegas (wine cellars) which sell their own locally produced wine, a grocery shop, a couple of bakers worth seeking out for warm bread and rolls for breakfast, plus a chemist and medical centre.

There are several bars and five or six restaurants within walking distance of the villa serving food ranging from bar snacks and tapas to excellent Spanish and international cuisine.
